World Rabies Day is September 28th. In 2007, 45 countries took part in events around the world to raise awareness of this dreaded disease. We focussed our efforts on the Philippines and signed a pledge to end rabies in this group of islands. See story.
The Philippines is badly affected by rabies, with several hundred recorded human deaths each year. Thousands more are affected by the fear following animal bite injuries and countless unvaccinated animals suffer a violent death.
Rabies can be prevented at the most basic level by dog and cat vaccination, which costs little more than one dollar. Experts have worked out it would only -cost about 8 million dollars to make the Philippines rabies-free. World Rabies Day helps focus attention on the rabies problem, which is also one of RFW's main goals as w e work to help reduce rabies suffering through education, outreach, support for research and targeted medical intervention. Please contact us if you are able to help.
