Dogs can get rabies

All dogs are mammals, and can be infected with rabies.

Canine-rabies has been stamped out in the USA, but because raccoons, skunks, bats, coyotes and other wild animals may carry rabies, it's important to protect dogs agains the virus with vaccine shots. Find out what to do if you are bitten by a dog, or your dog is injured by another animal.

Canine vaccination is law in many countries, because more than 99% of all human rabies cases result from contact with a dog, as over half the world's population live in the 80 countries where canine rabies is common. As long as dogs remain unvaccinated, people and other animals will continue to suffer with rabies.
